Quick answer
To pass the UPCAT, do four things: know the exam, make a study plan, practice with real questions, and stay calm. The UPCAT 2027 was held on August 1–2, 2026, and UP has not yet announced the UPCAT 2028 dates. Start early and review smart. Guia can help you every step of the way.
Can you pass the UPCAT? Yes, you can.
The UPCAT is hard. Many students want in. But do not be scared — you can pass it. You just need the right plan. This guide shows you how to pass the UPCAT, step by step. It is simple. Let’s go.
Step 1: Know the UPCAT
First, know what you are facing. The UPCAT has 4 parts. All questions are multiple choice — there is no essay.
| Subtest | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Language | English and Filipino words and grammar. |
| Reading | Understanding what you read. |
| Science | Biology, chemistry, and physics. |
| Math | Numbers, algebra, and problem solving. |
Your grades from Grade 8 to 11 also count. UP mixes your test score and your grades to get your final score, called the UPG.
Step 2: Know the date
The UPCAT 2027 (for School Year 2027–2028) was held on August 1–2, 2026. UP has not yet announced the UPCAT 2028 dates, so watch the UP Office of Admissions website. Once the date is out, mark it and count back from it to plan your review. The sooner you start, the better.
| Exam | UPCAT — UP College Admission Test |
|---|---|
| Last exam (SY 2027–2028) | August 1–2, 2026 (held) |
| Next exam (UPCAT 2028) | Not yet announced |
| Format | Multiple choice · 4 subtests · no essay |
| Final score | UPG = test score + Grade 8–11 grades |
Step 3: Make a study plan
A plan makes review easy. Pick a subject for each day. Like this:
- Monday — Math
- Tuesday — Science
- Wednesday — English
- Thursday — Reading
- Friday — Review your weak spots
- Weekend — Take a practice test, then rest
Study a little each day. Even 1 hour a day adds up. This beats cramming at the end.
Step 4: Practice with real questions
This is the big secret. Practice tests make you ready. They help you in three ways:
- You get used to the question style
- You learn to work fast, before time runs out
- You find your weak topics, so you can fix them
After each test, check what you got wrong. Then review those topics. Do this again and again. Your score will grow.
Step 5: Stay calm and healthy
Your brain needs rest. Sleep well. Eat good food. Take short breaks. A tired brain forgets. A rested brain wins.
Bring your test permit and a valid ID. Come early. Read each question slowly. Stay calm. You’ve got this. Kaya mo ’to.
