Quick answer

The UPCAT 2027 (for School Year 2027–2028) was held on August 1–2, 2026, and UP has not yet announced the UPCAT 2028 dates. To help your child get ready for the next one, start early, make a simple study plan, and practice the four test parts: Language, Reading, Science, and Math. Just as important, keep your child calm, rested, and encouraged — your support helps as much as the studying.

What is the UPCAT?

The UPCAT is the entrance test for the University of the Philippines (UP). UPCAT means “UP College Admission Test.” Thousands of students take it every year. Passing it is one way to get a slot at UP, where tuition is free by law.

If your child dreams of studying at UP, the UPCAT is a big step. But it is not the only thing that matters. UP also looks at your child’s grades from Grade 8 to Grade 11.

When is the UPCAT 2027?

The UPCAT 2027 (for School Year 2027–2028) was held on August 1–2, 2026. Results are expected in the first half of 2027, and UP has not yet announced the UPCAT 2028 dates. The UPCAT is for Grade 11 students who expect to finish senior high school by the end of the next school year, and for senior high school graduates. You can take it only once, and you must not have taken any college courses.

Mark this date on your calendar. Knowing the date helps you and your child plan a review timeline that is calm, not rushed.

Wait — 2026 or 2027?

UP calls it UPCAT 2027 because students who pass will start college in 2027. But the test itself was taken in 2026, on August 1–2. It is the same exam with two names.

What does the UPCAT test?

The UPCAT has four parts, called subtests. All questions are multiple choice — your child picks the best answer from a list. There is no essay.

SubtestWhat it covers
Language ProficiencyEnglish & FilipinoGrammar and vocabulary in both English and Filipino.
Reading ComprehensionEnglish & FilipinoUnderstanding what you read, in both English and Filipino.
ScienceBasic biology, chemistry, and physics.
MathematicsNumbers, algebra, and problem solving.

How is the UPCAT score computed?

UP does not look at the test score alone. They mix two things together:

When you put these together, you get the UPG — the “UP Admission Grade.” This is why good grades in high school also matter. Tell your child that every school year counts, not just the test day.

How can I help my child prepare?

You do not need to be a teacher to help. Here are simple ways parents can support their child.

1. Start early

Do not wait for the last month. A little review each week is better than cramming. Even one hour a day, four days a week, adds up over time.

2. Make a simple plan

Pick which subject to review on which day. For example: Math on Monday, Science on Tuesday, and so on. A clear plan takes away stress.

3. Use practice tests

Practice tests help your child get used to the questions and the time pressure. After each test, look at which topics were hard. Then review those topics again.

4. Keep your child healthy

Sleep, food, and rest are part of review too. A tired brain cannot focus. Make sure your child sleeps well, eats good meals, and takes short breaks.

5. Give emotional support

Many students feel scared before the UPCAT. Remind your child that you are proud of them no matter what. A calm home helps more than pressure. Kaya niya ’to.

Common mistakes parents make

The goal is a confident, healthy child on test day — not a tired, scared one.

Yes. UP combines the UPCAT score with your child's final grades from Grade 8 to Grade 11 to compute the UPG (UP Admission Grade).

When should my child start reviewing for the UPCAT?

The earlier the better. Many students start light review in Grade 11 and build up before the exam. Steady weekly review beats last-minute cramming.

Can my child pass the UPCAT without a review center?

Yes, some students pass through self-study using practice tests and online tools. A review center can help, but it is not the only path. What matters most is steady, focused practice.
